J-Cap Interview

We recently sat down with music producer and beatboxer Jakob Sørensen to discuss his journey of creating music, his inspiration, and the creation of his beatbox sample pack.

What inspired you to start creating music and how long have you been creating music?

I have always had music in me. When I was a kid, I made funny noises and dance moves. I remember seeing a beatboxer on TV when I was in the third grade, and I tried to imitate the sounds he made. I found out that I really liked beatboxing, and my friend and I even asked our music teacher if we could beatbox during class. In 2011, I started beatboxing professionally and making beats on my computer and loop station. In 2020, I made my first beatbox sample pack and realized I enjoy experimenting with sound. I have been creating music since 2011.

Have you had any placements and with whom have you had these placements?

I have done many shows over the years, but I haven't had any placements yet. I think it will happen at some point.

What samples do you normally like using when creating your own beats?

I like different samples that touch me in some way, especially samples that can make me happy or sad. I like powerful samples that can make powerful music. I also use mysterious vibes in my sample pack.

What was the vibe that you tried to create with your sample pack?

I wanted to create a mysterious vibe that makes people curious and ask questions like, "How was the sound created?" or "Is the sound even made by a human?"

How do you see other creators using this pack?

I hope other creators can use my sample pack to create music that stands out and is different. The samples are innovative, and I believe people can use them to make music that others have not heard before.

Do you have any tips or tricks for creators using this pack?

My advice is to be creative, stay curious, and ask questions about what the samples are trying to convey. Play with the samples and open your mind to new possibilities.

What piece of advice would you give to upcoming creators?

Stay curious and don't be afraid to reach out if you need help. There's always someone out there who's ready to support you. Personally, I think Beat Club is a good place to be if you need advice, motivation, or inspiration.

Who are your top three producers of all time?

My favorite producers are Timbaland, Kanye West, and Hopsin. I like Hopsin because he is extremely creative and different, and his music videos are just pure innovation.

What is your favorite studio snack?

I love fruit, especially watermelon, apples, pears, and oranges. They provide good energy for my body.

What's your dream collaboration?

My dream collaboration would be with The Weeknd and Justin Timberlake on something like TKO Part 2. Another collaboration I would like is J Cole.
